Dionysian
by Mabel Picotte

I caught a ride
on the crystal ship
and journeyed to the moon
by way of the old
Greenwood Agency
the rhythmic dark
hummed sweetly
with us
while the
luscious flavor of youth
branded the stars
onto our minds’
passage by starlight
redemption
at dawn
we landed at Swings Palace
soul flames licking
branches, leaves above
naïveté, beware
because fire is
just a little too
consuming
for those who’ve never
tasted a flame
“Cuz” and Supernova
lapped it up in quantities
until smoldering embers
hung from the boughs
just a girl and a band
sedated at the edge of excitement
a 20th century trip,
vocal chords loosed
laments to our cherished
ballads of bastards
fingers strumming
“it’s a loooong road to freedom
and love’s everlasting touch”
just a girl and a band
and words ablaze
leaving ember-like memories
of Dionysian days
not quite doused
and nothing like the Doors
